Rainfall over the weekend will give way to pleasant weather this week. Herbaceous fuels are now dormant and leaf litter is accumulating in the forests and woodlands increasing dead fuel loading. Dry weather is forecast through the Thanksgiving holiday and into the weekend increasing fuel availability for combustion. Significant fire weather is not expected at this time; however fire danger will gradually increase with extended periods of dry weather.
Special Note to Firefighters: Rainfall over the weekend, especially in South-central Oklahoma, has created soft soils which may create difficulty when operating vehicles off-road responding to wildfires. Prior to committing wildland engines to tactical operations scout on-foot ahead of driving off-road and insure that escape routes to safety zones are traversable.
Remember… ONLY YOU can prevent wildfires! Enjoy Oklahoma’s wildlands responsibly.
Report any suspicious wildland fire activity on the Arson Tip Line: 1-866-662-7766 (1-866-NO ARSON).
