Oklahoma Forestry Service has a long history of undertaking tree improvement efforts. Currently OFS operates a state-of-the-art tree improvement center located in Idabel, Oklahoma and over 40 acres of seed orchards located throughout the state.
OFS is a member of the Western Gulf Tree Improvement Program. This program is a cooperative tree breeding project with the objective of providing the best genetic quality seed for use in forest regeneration programs. Members include state agencies, industrial forestry companies and the US Forest Service.
